Urgent Notice - Recent Storm Damage - Home Insurance
Dear Property Owners of Altamira
You will see from the Minutes of the Altamira Management meeting held on the 23rd September that your Committee considered a report from Erwin Lahoda, President, of reports he had received of damage to our community infrastructure and to private property arising from the recent severe storm.
Our Administrator, Sylvia Fries, advised that if owners had suffered damage to their home and wished to make a claim that it was important that this be done without delay.
Sylvia reported that because of the severity of the damage and the financial implications involved the insurance companies are liaising with the Spanish Authorities.
Accordingly, any queries that owners may have should be directed to their insurance company who will advise them concerning any claims they wish to make.

Golf Buggies / Carritos de golf
Dear owners,
For some time now there is an increasing number of Golf Buggies in and around the streets of LasRamblas in general and in the communities directly adjacent to the Golf Court in particular.These buggies are NOT road legal and as such are uninsurable and must be used on golf courses only.
There has been a very serious accident with someone seriously being injured just last month andnow, a golf buggy was involved in an accident recently, damaging a car as it was unable to stopsufficiently quickly. Fortunately, the driver was not badly hurt this time.The braking systems on these buggies are designed to brake and stop on grass not on roadsurfaces.It is now time for those residents who own a golf cart to keep it in the buggy park and use it on thegolf course only, not to put life and property at risk, driving uninsured and illegally on the roadsthrough the urbanization.

Help your joints!
Recently, I have received questions in relation of problems with the joints: fingers – ankles – thumb – casing discomfort and of course pains.
This situation is unfortunately very common .... and actually the solutions often quite simple!
Whether you wish to call this arthrosis, arthritis or rheuma (or age), the responsible are the kidneys.
So my first advice would be to forget as much as possible taking pharmaceutical products (such as Voltaren or Ibuprofen) since these molecules “charge” the kidneys, creating loads of toxins.
For 3 thousand years, the TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) urge the patients to ensure to keep clean kidneys in case of pain and inflammation!
My proposal is to use a natural way to calm the inflammation.
I found recently here in Villamartin pharmacies what has been proven in northern Europe since years.It is a combination of:
Chondroitin – Glucosamin with addition of Harpagophytum (Devil Claw). Cheap, efficient and no side effects!
Start with 2 caps a day for 2 weeks and then 3 caps a day.
After the first bottle you might add a therapy of mussels or oyster powder.
To smooth down the pain I use Paracetamol 650 mg available in all pharmacies. (not Aspirin and acetyl salicyllic acids components to protect the kidneys) .
And never forget to drink much more (water, no sugar) especially between 5pm and 7pm.

Altamira Urbanization - Heated Swimming Pool
Background information and proposals
Over the years there have been several enquiries and requests made to investigate the possibility of one of our community’s six pools to be heated. We have recently taken professional advice and we feel we can now recommend to you a practical, economic and environmental solution which enables a pool to be used outside of the traditional summer season.
In consultation with a specialist company, Roos-Systems, all six of our pools were examined and it became clear that because of its size and location the lower pool in Calle Cazorla was clearly the most suitable to be adapted. There is easy access for installation of equipment and the site is aesthetically and optimally situated for using Solar Heating.
Solar heating has practically no additional extra running costs and the whole operation is quiet, no disturbance to our neighborhood. The project includes a pergola, hosting solar pipes on its roof beams and this would be situated in the grassed area adjacent to the pool thus providing a shaded area for bathers who do not want to leave the immediate pool area.
This type of heating system has been in operation for more than two decades in Spain and many of the original systems are still in operation. With the installation of a solar system we can considerably extend the swimming season by increasing the pool temperature an average of 5 degrees centigrade with practically no increased energy costs. Costings
The projected cost of approximately 16,500€ includes the solar system, the pergola (9 x 4.50m), artificial grass, flooring and labor. The sum also includes 10% for any unscheduled work.
Because of our prudent financial management the capital cost can be paid out of our reserves (still leaving a minimum of 80,000€ in investments) with no need to increase our annual owner management fee.
Additional benefits
Like all pools within our community, all owners, their families and renters will be able to use the heated pool. We believe that irrespective as to whether an owner will use the heated pool it is an additional facility which adds to the attractiveness of living in Altamira. We are advised that this new enhancement could well have a positive beneficial effect on our property values.
Decision to be taken at AGM 28th June, 2019
We are sending you this briefing information in advance of our AGM because at that meeting your President and Committee will be asking you, for all the reasons given above, to vote on endorsing our recommendation that we go ahead with this project. If you are not able to attend the AGM you can, of course, use your proxy vote. If you support myself and your committee in proposing that we proceed then we will at that time undertake further negotiations to ensure we get the best deal possible.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Ambulance Access to Our Community!
Dear Fellow Residents of Altamira,
Only some nights ago, an Ambulance was called to a house in Calle La Pena to assist a man who had become very ill, with breathing problems (quickly turning blue).
The Ambulance arrival was delayed at the property due to vehicles being badly parked on our narrow streets - it was also delayed in taking the man to hospital by the designated turning area being full of cars and cars parked adjacent to road junctions.
Two ambulances were deployed in order to make sure that this man could be taken to hospital because of the congested roads and his arrival in hospital was further delayed by at least a half an hour. This delay, in other circumstances could have proved fatal. The second Ambulance might have been needed elsewhere and thus further delayed by having to attend this patient.
We would appeal to all of the residents, not to park in designated areas marked “No Parking” or on the yellow lines, to leave sufficient room for emergency vehicles to pass safely and please think of others by using your drive or garage to keep your vehicles off the road, where possible?
Who knows if the next Ambulance or the next Fire Brigade Truck could be for YOU or ONE OF YOUR FAMILY or Your House!!!
Robin Plenderleith, Former President of Altamira past away last Sunday
It is with great sadness that I have to report the sad passing of Robin Plenderleith on Sunday 24th March. Robin was our first President when our lovely Altamira was under construction and was a little bit like Cowboy Land.
Those of us who have been here for some time will remember the times when we had no Telephone and no Postal Service to the boxes. These eventually came about under the Presidentship of Robin.
In those days we would meet in the Portacabins (where the Club House now exists) and take a glass or two of wine whilst Robin would “hold court” after a game of golf.
We shall all miss his cheerful exchanges as he would take his constitutional walk and must be mindful that we all owe him a debt for “crusading” those early years in office as our President.
There is a planned memorial service in his honour at the Spiritualist Chapel near the Saturday Market in Playa Flamenca on Sunday, however, timing has not been published as yet.
Our thoughts are with Annette (his wife) at this sad time.

Love To Sing? Then Why Not Join Cantabile Ladies Choir
Cantabile is a three part ladies' choir whose musical repertoire is very varied and ranges from early Baroque to the twenty first century and folk music to choruses from shows and opera. Many songs and carols are from around the world and are performed in a variety of languages. We try to ensure that all tastes are catered for.
It is a well established international choir which has been in existence for twenty-one years with a few ladies having been members almost from the beginning.
Cantabile includes singers, not only from the United Kingdom but Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France and Canada. We perform at a variety of venues and occasionally with other choirs.
New members are always welcome to join this friendly choir. Rehearsals are on Friday afternoons from 2.45 pm until 5 pm in La Siesta Church and the only requirement is the ability to sing in tune.
If you enjoy music and singing and you are looking for a group of ladies to sing with, come along to Cantabile Ladies Choir on Friday afternoons.

La Siesta Evangelical Church is situated on Urbanisation La Siesta,Torrevieja, which is off the CV-905 between Torrevieja and Quesada. Travelling from Torrevieja N332 (near Carrefour) towards Quesada there are 4 roundabouts. La Siesta is clearly signposted. Take the exit and at the end of the short road turn left for a short distance. Then turn right. You will see the little white Church on your left and a water park opposite.

To prevent your researching on Internet, I went looking for reliable support in Villamartin region…and I was pleasantly surprised when discovering the availability of natural products in the village!

I checked the products, coming from the USA, the UK and France mostly and I can only recommend them and the owner gives very good advice!

I guess that most of you have realised that winter comes (more in Switzerland than in Altamira, I guess!). To prevent running nose and headaches, be ready to protect and strengthen your immune system.
The best answer is a good dose of ECCHINACEA accompanied by Vitamine C and by extracts of CYPRESS if the flue is close.
